    Foraging Morel Mushrooms

My first ever morel find was purely by accident. I was never interested in searching for something that had a poisonous look-a-like. It was early May when I was taking a walk. I was passing by some old apple trees admiring the blossoms and there on the ground around the tree were mushrooms that appeared to be morels.

I was so excited! I took my knife and cut each one hoping that they were indeed morels. I went home, did my homework, and researched the differences between the false morels and the true morels.

This was a small harvest, but enough to give us a taste of how delicious they are! I just pan-fried them up with some butter.

This year I actively searched for them with no luck. I went back to the same area for the ones that I found last year. They were just popping up. I went back a couple of days later and they were gone! Oh well, maybe someone else had the joy of their very first find!
